Surgery Precautions

Before Surgery Precautions

Medication

Stop taking medications that interfere with blood
agglutination 1 week before surgery.
(Vitamin E, aspirin, hormonal, birth control)
If you have high blood pressure, heart condition,
diabetes, or thyroid issues please inform the hospital before-hand.

Smoking and Alcohol

The cigarette’s component can cause phlegm or
sneezing and bleeding after surgery. It is
recommended to stop smoking 3 days before
surgery. If you have heavy cold on the day of
surgery, please inform the hospital before-hand as
the respiratory system may not be normal.

Food

Patients must fast for 8 hours before surgery. 

This includes no water, no food, no gum or candy.

Attire

Where comfortable loose clothes that will not
agitate the surgery area (button ups/ hoodies). 

Prepare a mask/ scarf/ hat/ sunglasses to cover up.

Other

Fully shower and wash hair before the surgery.
Remove contact lenses, accessories, body
piercings, manicure, and make up before surgery
as it interferes with the monitoring.

Precautions After Surgery

Medication

Take the prescribe medication as told. 

Speak with the hospital first before taking aspirin
or hormonal medication.

Smoking and Alcohol

Smoking and drinking alcohol makes recovery
slow, so avoid for 4 weeks.

Washing

Washing hair and showering is possible after stitch
removal. Water should not touch the stitches. 


Ice Packs

For the first 3 days, use ice packs. Afterwards,
move on to warm/hot packs.
Keeping your head higher then the chest for
2~3days when you sleep will help de-swell faster. 

Recovery with bruising and swelling is different for
each person, so please be patient 🙂
