Forehead Lift/ Temporal Lift Surgery Precautions

Forehead lift precautions and temporal lift precaution guide from MINE Plastic Surgery & Dermatology.

Post-Operative Care Instructions After Forehead Lift Surgery and Temporal Lift Surgery

1. Sleeping Position After Surgery

For the first 2 weeks after surgery, please do not lie on your side or on your stomach. Sleep on your back with your face pointing toward the ceiling.

2. Eating After Surgery

You may eat all normal foods, but please avoid spicy or irritating foods.

3. Swelling Management

  • For the first 2–3 days after surgery, swelling and bruising will gradually worsen, then subside slowly over the following 2–4 weeks. This varies from person to person.
  • Any remaining swelling will go down over the course of 2–3 months.
  • Apply cold compresses through the third day after surgery (including the day of surgery), and switch to warm compresses after that. (Please use the compress pack we provided.) (For warm compresses, microwave the provided pack for about 15 seconds.)
  • Because sensation in the forehead area is reduced, please be careful not to burn yourself when using warm compresses.

4. Wound Care

  • Stitches will be removed on day 7–10. (This may vary depending on your skin type.)
  • The forehead will be compressed for 3–4 days. If your skin feels too tight, please come in to the clinic.
  • Apply ointment to the suture area twice a day, in the morning and evening. (Until the stitches are removed.)

5. Washing Your Face and Showering

  • You may wash your face starting the day after surgery, and you may shampoo your hair after the stitches are removed. (When washing your face, use wet wipes to clean the facial area so that water does not get into the forehead incision.)
  • (After stitch removal) After shampooing, please dry the scalp incision area with cool air.
  • When washing your hair, do not rub the scalp incision area hard.
  • No saunas for one month after surgery. (Risk of infection.)

6. Exercise

You may resume daily activities after 3–4 days. Light walking is allowed 1–2 weeks after surgery, and strenuous exercise is allowed after 1 month.

7. Medication

  • Take the medication prescribed at discharge 30 minutes after your first meal following surgery, and take it regularly at the scheduled times. If you experience symptoms such as diarrhea or an allergic reaction after taking the medication, please contact the clinic.
  • For the first week after surgery only, please do not take aspirin or vitamin E, as they can cause bleeding.

8. Alcohol and Smoking

Alcohol and smoking adversely affect bleeding, wound healing, and infection, so please refrain from both for one month after surgery.

9. Recovery Course

  • A tight or numb feeling in the forehead skin is a normal part of recovery and will gradually improve over time. (It is most pronounced around 1–2 months in.)
  • The forehead may feel hard and look temporarily uneven; this improves over time.
  • If you have a severe headache, you may take Tylenol as an additional medication.
  • Hair dyeing and perms are allowed after one month.
  • Sensation in the forehead skin will be reduced; the nerves will gradually begin to recover starting around 6 months.
  • Please avoid massaging or applying pressure to the forehead for one month.
  • Please avoid Ulthera or ultrasound laser treatments on the forehead for 6 months. (Other areas of the face are fine.)
  • If Endotine was used, the implant may be palpable until it is absorbed. It takes about 1 year to be absorbed, so please do not keep touching it with your hands.
  • Post-operative care is just as important as the surgery itself, so we kindly ask for your cooperation.
  • If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact the clinic at any time.
