- Avoid hot and strongly flavored foods, since bleeding can occur after the surgery (colder foods are better). Also avoid hard or tough foods.
- For approximately a week following the surgery, it is beneficial to eat soft foods. After the week, one may return to eating regular meals.
- As the surgery is performed through an incision in the mouth, you must use prescribed mouthwash after every meal and on a regular basis.
(This is an important after-care step to avoid infection.) - It is important to refrain from using a toothbrush against the dimple gum membrane area until it reattaches (approximately one week), therefore please use the provided mouthwash and brush only on areas away from the dimple.
- Be careful not to open the mouth very wide.
- Avoid blowing air into the cheeks or inflating the cheeks. We are trying to avoid the use of the cheek muscles inside the mouth.
- Avoid the use of straws. Do not spit or apply any pressure to the inside of the mouth for 1 week.
- Take care not to apply any pressure to the area of surgery.
- Be careful not to smoke or consume alcohol for approximately a month.
- Do not disturb the surgical area at all.
- Applying ice and light walking will help to diminish swelling.
(Amount of swelling depends highly on each individual. One may swell more if the fat under the skin is thicker, lasting anywhere from 4-7 days). - Do not apply make up on the surgery area for at least 1 week.
- Take off the skin-color tape covering the dimple on the 3rd day after surgery.
